As part of its efforts to eliminate barriers and expand opportunities for advanced energy technologies, Advanced Energy United is advocating for the development of a competitive wholesale energy market for the Western U.S., known as a regional transmission organization (RTO). Leveraging new research and our membership's industry leadership, Advanced Energy United seeks to support state leaders in Western states as they pursue legislative, regulatory, and gubernatorial avenues to cooperate on creating a West-wide power grid that would lower consumer costs, improve power system reliability, and host a fair marketplace for clean energy technologies to compete. Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico have been identified as priority states for this advocacy campaign, with additional outreach needed in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah.
