Indiana is known for making and growing things used at home and globally. Expansive wind energy projects in the north, and signature solar arrays in the urban centers signify a history of the state harnessing advanced energy to grow its economy.

With its skilled workforce, business leaders and elected officials embracing a resurgence of advanced battery manufacturing, Indiana is poised to grow innovation and new business innovation. Building on the Electric Vehicle (EV) Production Commission, an initiative designed to help ensure Indiana is advancing 21st Century automotive and mobility solutions, the Indiana General Assembly passed HEA 1221, creating a regulatory framework for electric vehicle charging in the state. More recently, Indiana Governor Holcomb delivered opening remarks at a session of the COP27 gathering in Egypt focused on the electric vehicle transition.

However, in order for advanced energy technologies to contribute to the growth and prosperity of Indiana, the state legislature must amend or develop new programs, policies, and regulations relevant to the state’s energy sector. Expanded consumer choices and access to renewable energy would foster a larger market for advanced energy companies. Integration of energy efficiency, performance based ratemaking and distributed energy resources are keys to modernizing Indiana’s utilities. Uniform and streamlined standards for wind and solar projects is essential to attracting more investment to the state. We are working to encourage the state to accelerate its advanced energy transition in both the transportation and electric sectors.
