We work with legislative and regulatory decision-makers in states to improve the value proposition of DER adoption for customers by properly valuing their contribution to the grid, through rate design and other regulatory policy, making DERs more enticing consumer products with improved returns on investment.
By sitting down with legislators, governors, utilities, and state regulators, we educate decision-makers on the value DER aggregation can have for consumers and grid operators, and the policy changes needed to unlock that potential. We also engage directly in wholesale market rule development, and with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), to ensure a fair playing field for the sector. Regulation should foster a competitive market for DER aggregators to encourage innovation in both the products and the offerings available to consumers while driving down participation costs.
Integrating DERs into states and utilities grid infrastructure planning can help defer unnecessary spending, and further increase the true value of DERs. Advanced Energy United produces research to demonstrate this opportunity, and advocates for regulators and grid operators to factor these benefits into transmission planning.
