Advanced Energy United is working to change that by engaging directly with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), as well as Regional Transmission Organizations and Independent System Operators — including PJM, ISO New England, MISO, SPP, and ERCOT — to reform and expand opportunities and eliminate barriers to participation for advanced energy businesses. This work includes improving transmission and interconnection policies to ease grid connections for advanced energy resources, enabling efficient buildout of a modernized transmission system, and changing grid operator policies to empower distributed resources to be used to their full potential. Advanced Energy United is also a leading voice in support of the development of a regional organization to manage a fully independent wholesale energy market for the Western U.S.
