HELPING NEW YORK REACH ITS ENERGY AMBITION

New York’s policymakers, advocates and clean energy sector leaders have firmly established the state as a national leader in advancing clean energy policy. Most notably, the 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) set clean energy goals for New York including a 70% renewable electricity goal by 2030 and 100% carbon-free electricity mandate by 2040. Today the advanced energy sector employs more than 172,000 New Yorkers, and jobs in the sector grew 4.5% from 2020 to 2021, with energy storage (7.2%), solar (8.8%), and electric vehicle (25%) jobs among the fastest growing. Now, Advanced Energy United and other industry leaders are working with advocates and policymakers to implement policy solutions that ensure enough wind turbines, solar panels, EVs, energy storage facilities, transmission lines and other clean energy solutions can come online fast enough to hit the state’s ambitious clean energy goals—and then reap the economic and environmental benefits in the process.

OUR POLICY PLATFORM

  • Accelerating the transition to 100% clean energy in New York  by building the offshore wind farms, onshore solar and wind, and other renewable energy resources needed to hit New York’s historic clean energy targets.
  • Ensuring a reliable electricity supply by advancing energy efficiency solutions to cut our energy demand, and enhancing New York’s existing transmission systems and building out the new transmission needed to allow more clean energy to come onto the grid.
  • Bringing electric vehicles and their benefits to all communities by breaking down logistical and financial barriers for accessing these vehicles—both passenger EVs as well as school buses and other larger vehicles—and building out the necessary charging infrastructure in communities large and small to support this transition.
