Reforming & Expanding Wholesale Markets

Advanced energy technologies are undervalued and underutilized in wholesale markets. Advanced Energy United is working to change that by engaging directly with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), as well as Regional Transmission Organizations and Independent System Operators — including PJM, ISO New England, MISO, SPP, and ERCOT — to reform and expand opportunities and eliminate barriers to participation for advanced energy businesses. This work includes improving transmission and interconnection policies to ease grid connections for advanced energy resources, enabling efficient buildout of a modernized transmission system, and changing grid operator policies to empower distributed resources to be used to their full potential. Advanced Energy United is also a leading voice in support of the development of a regional organization to manage a fully independent wholesale energy market for the Western U.S.

Project Spotlight

A Vision for the West

A Vision for the West is an Advanced Energy United resource that highlights the opportunity stemming from the new Regional Organization for Western Energy (ROWE), a collaborative, voluntary Western-led effort to connect the region through a shared electricity market. The resource outlines what the ROWE is, why it matters for Western communities, and a vision for how it can evolve to provide a full range of market services for the West.

Gridlock to growth

Gridlock to Growth is a resource we launched to support state decision-makers, staff, and advocates who want to understand the complexities of the regional transmission system, identify opportunities for state engagement in regional and federal energy decisions, and champion policies that improve reliability, affordability, and low-cost energy access.
