Advanced Energy United celebrates the awarding of $3.5 billion for 58 grid-improving projects as part of the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) Program from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Costs to consumers from congestion on the U.S. power grid more than doubled to an estimated $13 billion in 2021 from the year before and was estimated to reach $21 billion in 2022 and will likely keep rising until the needed transmission capacity is built.

In an opinion piece to CommonWealth Magazine, Advanced Energy United’s Jeremy McDiarmid and Kat Burnham stressed the importance of a robust and resilient grid. They highlighted the role that New England governors must have in building on state commitments to clean energy goals by taking a regional, holistic approach to developing the grid – focusing on community engagement and leveraging innovation with competition.

Advanced Energy United applauded a newly proposed rule by the U.S. Department of Energy that would create a program to streamline federal permitting processes.
