The business-as-usual method of connecting load creates a grid that assumes all loads will be used at maximum capacity at some point and therefore is built for the most unlikely of extreme scenarios. Flexible grid connection offers a solution by empowering customers with options to connect new loads quickly, even in areas with capacity limitations.
After a year of cross-industry collaboration, the CHARGED Initiative—a collaboration between GridLab, RMI, and Advanced Energy United—has created a guide outlining flexible grid connection concepts, methods, and considerations for implementation. In this webinar, panelists shared key insights from the guide, including the benefits of flexible grid connection; the opportunities for mitigating grid upgrade needs, associated costs, and timeline delays; and guidance on how utilities and regulators can explore, evaluate, prioritize, and implement flexible grid connection solutions.
