Distribution grid flexibility, including demand response, demand-side management (DSM) programs, and non-wires alternatives (NWAs), leads to higher grid utilization, traditional asset deferral, customer empowerment, grid resilience, faster grid connections, and critically: lower costs for customers. As U.S. states consider how to incorporate load flexibility, international examples can provide useful resources, experiences, and lessons learned.
The CHARGED Initiative – a partnership formed by Advanced Energy United, GridLab, and RMI to advance affordable electrification – studied international approaches to load flexibility to understand how they can be applied to the U.S. context.
In the webinar, panelists – each with experience working on grid flexibility in several countries, including Norway, Finland, Great Britain, Canada, and the U.S. – shared what they have learned from implementing distribution flexibility projects and discussed how efforts in the U.S. can scale to deliver customer benefits.
