On behalf of Advanced Energy United, Cygnal, an international polling and public opinion firm, spoke with 800 likely voters from July 17-18 of 2023, finding widespread support for renewable energy across the state.

Some of the largest utilities in Indiana could save their customers a combined $73.1 million by switching to advanced energy technologies instead of moving forward with plans to build new gas-fired power plants, according to a new study by Strategen Consulting and commissioned by Advanced Energy United.

In this report, Strategen assesses the changing policy environment and market dynamics in Indiana and the impact on the economics of investing in battery storage instead of the utility-proposed natural gas-fired combustion turbine (“CT”) plants for three utilities in Indiana.

This report identifies a potential clean energy portfolio to match or exceed the energy and capacity provided by Duke Energy’s proposed gas-fired plant and conducts economic analysis to estimate the cost of the gas unit relative to the clean energy portfolio, including any excess energy sales and market purchases.

This analysis, prepared by Demand Side Analytics for Advanced Energy United (previously Indiana Advanced Energy Economy), offers suggestions for modeling energy efficiency and demand response opportunities to aid AES Indiana in selecting a preferred resource portfolio and short-term action plan that best meets customer and utility needs, especially regarding peak load management.
