Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s executive order addresses growing demand while recognizing the role of clean energy and battery storage.

RICHMOND, VA – Today, Gov. Abigail Spanberger released the Virginia Data Center Accountability Framework, establishing a new approach to data center development that strengthens local oversight and environmental protections while addressing the energy and infrastructure needs associated with growing demand.

“We’re glad to see Gov. Spanberger put clean energy at the center of this framework by encouraging investment in local clean energy. This is a moment for Virginia to lead. The clean energy industry is ready to build, and we need policymakers to give us every opportunity to put more low-cost power on the grid, strengthen reliability, and deliver lower energy costs for Virginians. We want to see governors across the country meet growing energy demand by building more clean energy, strengthening the grid and making sure communities see the benefits of that investment,” said Morgan Pinnell, Managing Director at Advanced Energy United.
