WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Advanced Energy United congratulated the U.S. Department of Energy on its announced investments through the Speed to Power through Accelerated Reconductoring and other Key Advanced Transmission Technology Upgrades, or SPARK, program, originally enabled by the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in 2021.
The SPARK funding will go towards several kinds of advanced energy solutions, including reconductoring or rebuilding over 1,500 miles of transmission infrastructure, and deploying grid-enhancing technologies across over 20,000 miles of transmission, ultimately unlocking 23 gigawatts of additional grid capacity.
Heather O’Neill, President and CEO of Advanced Energy United, released the following statement:
“Advanced Energy United is thrilled to see the U.S. Department of Energy embrace grid flexibility and this ambitious deployment of advanced transmission technologies.
Our current electric grid isn’t up to the task of keeping up with America’s growing energy needs, and this investment will help modernize our electricity system, increase grid capacity, and strengthen overall system reliability.
Flexibility is an incredibly valuable grid resource, and millions of customers across the country will benefit from these 31 grid-improving advanced energy projects.”
